European Parliament
This week, MEPs will be working outside the European Parliament, either in their constituency or in Parliamentary delegations, responsible for maintaining relations with non-EU countries.

Council of Ministers
Monday 19 July
Agriculture and Fisheries Council
Ministers will be asked to approve the Council’s conclusions on the EU’s organic action plan. The European Commission will brief ministers about trade issues related to the agricultural market. The Slovenian delegation will present the work programme for its presidency term. The Commission will inform ministers about the European citizens’ initiative ‘End the Cage Age’. The Austrian delegation will brief ministers about improving animal welfare for turkey husbandry, in line with the ‘farm to fork’ strategy.
Informal meeting of competitive minsters (Research)
The EU competitiveness ministers (research) will use this informal meeting to have an in-depth discussion on the key issues and challenges of the EU’s research and innovation policy environment as well as the reform of the European Research Area.
Tuesday 20 – Wednesday 21 July
Informal meeting of Environment ministers
The ministers will exchange their first informal responses to the Fit for 55 package. The afternoon session will be focused on the preparations for the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties. The second day will be dedicated to biodiversity. The session will start with the discussion on the preparations for the Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity and on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. Commissioner Sinkevičius will present the Report on the implementation of the pollinators initiative.
Thursday 22 July
Informal meeting of Competitive minsters (Internal market and industry)
The theme of the meeting under the heading “Building a Green, Creative and Smart Future” will be based on two priorities of the Slovenian Presidency in the field of the Competitiveness Council: the transition to a circular economy and creative industries as a generator of added value in the economy.
Thursday 22 – Friday 23 July
Informal meeting of the European Affairs minister
The central topic of the meeting will be the discussion on the horizontal aspects of strengthening the Union’s resilience to crises and the presentation of the Slovenian Presidency priority tasks. The first part of the meeting will outline the priorities of the Slovenian Presidency to be discussed at the GAC by the end of the year, with particular emphasis on the enlargement policy, the rule of law and the activities relating to the Conference on the Future of Europe. The second part of the meeting will focus on the horizontal aspects of strengthening the Union’s resilience to crises, which by virtue of their nature or scale exceed the capacities of individual member states and therefore require a joint response. The Western Balkans partners will also be present at this part of the meeting

Commissioner Schinas visits Athens, Greece
Commissioner Schinas visits Athens, Greece and meets with Regional Director of the World Health Organization for Europe, Hans Kluge. He will participate in the International Conference on the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Mental Health Status and Service Delivery Systems in the pan-European Region.
Commissioner Hahn visits Italy
Commissioner Hahn visits Italy. In Milano he meets with President of the Bocconi University Mario Monti; the Mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala; and performs a presentation of NGEU for investors. In Rome he meets with Minster for Economy and Finance of Italy, Daniele Franco.

The societal and ecological impact of the 5G ecosystem
The number of live 5G networks has increased significantly in Europe and outside Europe since the beginning of 2019. The result of a 2020 Deloitte study on 5G technology shows that 39% of participants believe that 5G is safe for health, while 21% believe that 5G is harmful, and 40% have doubts. The aim of this hearing is to address the EU civil society concerns in line with the citizens’ requests for clarification regarding the societal and environmental impact of the 5G technology ecosystem.

COSAC is a forum for discussion on current EU affairs that also helps strengthen cooperation between national parliamentary committees and members of the European Parliament.
Tuesday 20 July
Conference on Regulation of Artificial Intelligence – Ethical and Fundamental Rights Aspects
The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia will host a virtual conference that will focus on the effective protection of fundamental rights when regulating artificial intelligence in Europe in beyond. It will focus on the EU perspective, especially on the Commission’s proposal for the Artificial Intelligence Act and the international perspective comparing different approaches of several regional and international organisations and encouraging their close cooperation in this field.
