Brussels Wednesday Social | Co-operation in Action: the EU Single Market as the avenue to recovery
The 13th Brussels Wednesday Social, organised by the European Movement International in partnership with Forum Europe, will be held online. The event will bring together business, EU officials, government representatives and trade unions to discuss how the EU can make the most of the tools that the Single Market affords it and how to strengthen and improve it so it continues to provide benefits to EU members states and European citizens throughout this crisis and beyond. After the initial discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session. The webinar is free to attend, but advanced registration is requested.

Committee on Foreign Affairs
On the agenda: remote vote on Guidelines for the 2021 Budget – Section III, and European Parliament recommendation to the Council, the Commission and the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy on the Western Balkans, in the run-up to the 2020 summit. There will also be remote participation in Exchange of views with Josep Borrell on the implications of COVID-19 for the external action of the EU, and on the Joint Communication and the EU Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy for 2020-2024.
Committee on Regional Development
The Committee on Regional Development will discuss the EU response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The debate will take place with the participation of Cohesion and Reforms Commissioner Elisa Ferreira, and Executive Vice President of the European Commission for an Economy that Works for People, Valdis Dombrovskis.

On the agenda: Exchange of views with Phil Hogan, Commissioner for Trade on EU response to the impact of COVID-19 on trade, vote on Council decision on the conclusion, on behalf of the Union, of the Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the European Union and Switzerland in connection with the negotiations on the modification of Switzerland’s WTO concessions on meat not further prepared than seasoned.

EU leaders will follow up, by video conference on the EU’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The main topics will be limiting the spread of the virus, providing medical equipment, promoting research, tackling socio-economic consequences, helping citizens stranded in third countries.

Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council
EU sport ministers will hold a video conference to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sport sector. Exchange of views will focus on specific measures foreseen or already in place to support the sport sector, how to ensure the continuity of athletes’ training and enhance the physical activity of citizens while at the same time ensuring their safety and limiting the spreading the virus, the main steps to be prepared and taken in order to successfully restart activity of the sport sector.
