The future of participatory and deliberative democracy
On Friday, 3 March at 9:30 CET, the European Movement International will co-organise an event on the future of participatory and deliberarive democracy, alongside the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) and Solidar, in cooperation with the EESC’s Ad hoc Group on Fundamental rights and the rule of law (FRRL) and the EESC’s Ad hoc Group on European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI). The workshop will explore different models available of deliberative democracy and what civil society organisations are doing to advance and promote participatory and deliberative democracy at the national and European levels. It will also take stock of the CoFoE and be the occasion discuss the future of European citizens’ panels.

Informal meeting of telecommunications, transport, energy ministers
The programme includes three sessions: first session on energy, which will discuss energy market design and security of supply. Following is the first session on transport, which will discuss the future transport policy for a competitive and climate neutral Europe. The last agenda item is energy and transport policies for an accelerated transition of the transport sector beyond 2030, which will be a joint session.

Tuesday 28 February

Informal meeting of telecommunications, transport, energy ministers
The second day will include a second session on Energy, which will discuss future energy policy for industrial competitiveness in all Member States. The second session on Transport will go over implementing Fit for ’55: taking stock and sharing best practices. It will end with a study visit with test driving for heavy-duty vehicles.

Thursday 2 March

Competitiveness Council
EU ministers responsible for the internal market and industry will seek to adopt two Council positions on distance marketing of consumer financial services, and on data collection and sharing relating to short-term accommodation rental services.

High-level meeting: A gender equal economy in a society free from gender-based violence
This meeting is for politicians at ministerial level or state-secretary level from all Member States. The first day will focus on gender mainstreaming in the budgetary process and discussions to inform the draft Council conclusions that Sweden will present later during its Presidency. The second day will highlight a number of award-winning methods for the detection and prevention of men’s violence against women.

Living in the bioeconomy
The transition to a biobased economy is key for climate, jobs, growth and development in rural areas. The current challenges have further accentuated the need for renewable resources for a resilient Europe. In June 2022, the Commission presented its progress report on the implementation of EU Bioeconomy Strategy. During this conference, the Presidence will continue the discussions on policies and actions to take towards a sustainable, biobased society with resource-efficient value chains.

PACE Standing Committee to commemorate 75 years since the Congress of Europe in the Hague
Parliamentarians are due to debate reports on European solidarity in regards to asylum and international protection, on Cultural Routes as platforms for intercultural dialogue, on promoting online education and research across national borders, and on innovative approaches to sexual and reproductive health and crisis.
