Talking Europe featuring Joost Korte, Director-General of DG EMPL
On Tuesday, 1 March from 11:00-12:00 CET, the EMI will hold the eleventh edition of Talking Europe organised in partnership with the European Commission, this time featuring Joost Korte, Director-General of DG EMPL. This series of online events launched in 2020 aims to discuss the EU’s work and how it affects all Europeans. Our guest Joost Korte, Director-General of DG EMPL will be discussing the recent work of DG EMPL, including the European Employment Strategy, social inclusion with regards to the Covid-19 crisis and the recent developments in a green and digital transition strategy.

Informal meeting of ministers responsible for cohesion policy
The ministers responsible for cohesion policy will gather during an informal meeting from Monday to Tuesday to discuss the recovery of the European economies that have been hit by the crisis.
Thursday 3 March – Friday 4 March
Justice and Home Affairs Council
EU home affairs ministers will discuss the situation in and political governance of the Schengen area. Home affairs ministers will review the progress achieved on asylum and migration. The Council will aim to adopt conclusions on civil protection work in view of climate change. EU justice ministers will assess progress on the e-evidence proposals. Discussions on the proposals are ongoing between the Council and the European Parliament. Ministers will discuss the proposal for a Council decision on hate speech and hate crime. Justice ministers will exchange views on fundamental rights with Michael O’Flaherty, the director of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, and will aim to adopt conclusions on combating racism and antisemitism.
Informal meeting of the General Affairs Council
The ministers responsible for European affairs will meet for an informal discussion on current affairs relative to the General Affairs Council and the priorities of the French Presidency.
Sunday 6 March – Monday 7 March
Informal meeting of development ministers
The ministers and ministers of state for development of the 27 Member States will discuss the challenges of cooperation in the field of development in a context of heightened competition in the priority regions of the EU and post-COVID-19 recovery.

Commissioner Didier Reynders will participate via videoconference in the EU’s Annual conference on Circular Economy.

College meeting
The College of Commissioners will convene on Wednesday. It is expected to launch the Joint European Action for more affordable, secure and sustainable energy and the 2023 Fiscal policy guidance.

European Circular Economy Stakeholder Conference
The European Economic Social Committee (EESC) and the European Commission (EC) will host the 2022 European Circular Economy Stakeholder Conference. This year’s conference will bring together Europe’s largest network of stakeholders in the Circular Economy with a focus on the path to a new normal: sustainable products for sustainable consumption.

Extraordinary meeting of the Diversity Europe Group : Climate Change and Energy Transition
In the context of the French Presidency of the Council of the EU, the Diversity Europe Group of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will organise a conference in Paris entitled “Climate Change and Energy Transition”. The hybrid event will take place at the French Académie du Climat and will bring together some 120 persons representing EESC Members, academia, French civil society organisations and representatives of the French local and national authorities.
Friday 4 March
A sustainable future for European industry
The European Economic and Social Committee and the European Commission are hosting a conference on A sustainable future for European industry. This hybrid event will look into civil society’s contribution towards rebuilding a sustainable and green digital Europe – a Europe that does not lose sight of long-term growth and investment strategies, but at the same time ensures fairness and leaves no one behind.

Europe of Culture, Europe of Cultures
As part of the Conference on the Future of Europe, the European Movement Vaucluse and the surrounding area is organising an event in Avignon about European culture. The theme of the event, “Europe of Culture, Europe of Cultures”, provides an opportunity to discuss the field of European cultural policies, develop a more comprehensive reflection on what culture is, and how different cultures can be articulated in a common political entity.

Summit Marseille 2022
The European Summit of regions and cities is a gathering of local representatives organised every two years by the European Committee of the Regions to discuss the EU’s future challenges. This time, the Summit aims at increasing the impact and outreach of the Conference on the Future of Europe. The voices of regions and cities must be heard and listened to, as they are key contributors to the European project and play an essential role in placing citizens at the heart of Europe.

Ministerial Conference on Combatting Homelessness in the European Union
The French Presidency of the Council is committed to developing a European response to more effectively combat the phenomenon of homelessness and inadequate housing.This ministerial conference will focus on seeing through this initiative and endorsing the platform’s roadmap. It will be structured around two periods dedicated to improving social observation mechanisms and implementing the Housing First policy.

A high-level round table will be organised on “The new mechanism in the fight against corruption – the Electronic System of Declaration of Assets and Conflict of Interests”. Participants will include: Lindita Nikolla, Speaker of Albanian Parliament; Hanne Juncher, Executive Secretary of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO); Luigi Soreca, Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Albania; Adea Pirdeni, Vice Minister of Justice; Olsian Çela, General Prosecutor; Jutta Gützkow, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Tirana, and Mischere Kawas, USAID Mission Director in Albania.

Assessement by the Congress of the application of the European Charter of Local Self-Government in the Czech Republic
A delegation from the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities , composed of rapporteurs Viorel Furdui (Republic of Moldova, ILDG) and Jani Kokko (Finland, SOC/G/PD), will carry out a follow-up visit to Prague, Brno, Jilhava and Velký Beranov to assess the implementation of the European Charter of Local Self-Government in the Czech Republic since the previous monitoring report adopted by the Congress in 2012. The rapporteurs will have exchanges of views with the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Regional Development, with the Secretary General of the Constitutional Court as well as with the representatives of the Public Defender of Rights and with the Presidents of the Senate and of the Chamber Members of Parliament. Meetings will also take place with the mayors of Prague and representatives of the municipalities of Jihlava and Velký Beranov, as well as with other stakeholders.

High-level Conference on Gender-responsive and Disability-inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction Policies and Management
Natural and human-made hazards have become increasingly frequent, with the capacity to ruin people’s lives and livelihoods. As such, they constitute major security risks, also within the OSCE-area. The event is the conclusion of a series of activities to explore how gender and disability affect vulnerabilities and in natural disaster, enhancing sub-regional and international co-operation among relevant DRR government bodies and organizations working with disability and gender equality.
