Informal meeting of defence ministers
The key theme of the meeting is the Russian aggression against Ukraine and its impact on the security of EU Member States. The consequences of this unprecedented act of aggression will be discussed during the first part of the meeting which will EU Defence Ministers as well as senior officials of the UN, NATO and the European Parliament. The Defence Ministers will also discuss the influence of Russian activity in Africa, with specific focus on the EU engagements in the region. The following session will entertain the EU Defence Investment Gap Analysis. The discussion will be based on a document presented to the Ministers in Brussels in mid-May, which describes current issues as well as ways ahead. The last Prague session will go back to the topic which has been influencing not only Europe in the past six months: the war in Ukraine. The topic of the discussion will be the EU’s support to Ukraine. Ukrainian Minister of Defence Oleksii Reznikov will attend the meeting as well.

Informal meeting of foreign affairs ministers
This year’s meeting will take place at the Congress Centre in Prague and one theme that will run through the entire Prague meeting is the Russian aggression in Ukraine and its implications for the security of EU Member States. As part of the discussion of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, the ministers will discuss the global consequences of the Russian invasion, as well as further sanctions against Russia. The ministers will also discuss the European outlook for Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia (the so-called Associated Trio) and the future of the Eastern Partnership. The ministers will also discuss relations between the EU and Africa, where the EU is providing immediate and long-term assistance in response to the Russian aggression. The discussions will cover the future of the EUTM Mali mission and other EU involvement in the region, as well as issues related to countering Russian disinformation and strengthening contacts with countries in Africa. On the sidelines of the meeting, an informal lunch will be held with the Moldovan, Georgian and Ukrainian ministers.

In order to prepare its own initiative opinion on “Ensuring strong European solidarity for rare disease patients”, the EESC is organising a public hearing on 1st September 2022. The aim of the event is to gather input from policy makers, civil society organisations and social partners, which will feed into the EESC’s opinion.

Forum for Ukraine
The 26th annual Forum 2000 Conference, titled “Democracy’s Clear and Present Danger: How Do We Respond?”, will be held in Prague on August 31- September 2, 2022. At a time when the people of Ukraine are bravely defending their country against Vladimir Putin’s aggression, the conference will feature a special “Forum for Ukraine” where participants will address the post-war future of Ukraine at the heart of the European and global democratic community. The conference sessions will also discuss the global resurgence of authoritarianism, search for ways how democratic alliances can be constructed, as well as look for new ideas on how to make democracy more resilient in the current challenging environment.

Addressing Hate Crime against Indigenous Peoples: Expert Meeting on the Situation in the OSCE Region
This in-person event aims to strengthen understanding of hate crimes against indigenous peoples towards developing guidance and resources to address such intolerance. Indigenous activists and civil society representatives from across the OSCE region will have the opportunity to share and explore their key concerns, trends and developments related to hate crimes targeting indigenous groups. Through in-depth discussions, participants will pinpoint key challenges in addressing crimes motivated by intolerance against indigenous peoples, and share these with ODIHR.
