Following the Congress of Algiers, held in February 2006, the European Movement International, Casa Mediterráneo and Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in cooperation with the European Movement Valencia, European Movement Spain and the University of Alicante, will hold on the 19-20-21 of November 2009 in Alicante, the second Congress of the “South-North Mediterranean Dialogue”, on the topics of Education and Migration.

The organisation of the Congress is supported by the Region of Valencia, the Anna Lindh Foundation, ISESCO, ALECSO, the League of Arab States, the European Commission and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The aim of the South-North Mediterranean Dialogue is to develop a common vision of the future of our part of the world and to encourage the cooperation between the civil societies on both shores of the Mediterranean Sea. In this perspective, the topics of Education and Migrations are of an essential importance.

Mrs. Benita Ferrero-Waldner, EU Commissioner responsible for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, will contribute to the Congress with a key-note speech at the plenary session on Friday, while Mr. Jacques Barrot, Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Justice, Freedom and Security, will join the political debate on migration on Saturday.
