Brussels, 25th February 2014: Today the European Movement International welcomes the European Green Party as full members, completing the circle of pro-European parties within the network.
The European Green Party joins the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, the European Democratic Party, the European People’s Party and the Party of European Socialists, as members of the European Movement International, allowing the platform to truly become a meeting place for all pro-European political parties to come together and debate ideas for the future of Europe.
Jo Leinen MEP, President of the European Movement International said “I welcome the European Green Party to the pro-European network of the European Movement International. With all major European political parties now as members, the European Movement underlines its non-partisan character to unit diverse actors to work for a strong and united Europe”.
Monica Frassoni, Co-chair of the European Green Party added that “as European Greens we are glad to have the possibility to work together with the European Movement International. More democracy and more solidarity are some of the basic steps that will lead us to a more integrated Europe. We need to change the EU, but in order to do so, we also need to be ready for a better European integration.”
In addition to welcoming the European Green Party as a full member organisation of the European Movement International, this week also sees the European Friends of Armenia and the Eyes and Ears of Europe join as associate members, and the Kosovar Civil Society Foundation join as a supporting member, bringing the total number of members of the network to 76.
