Traineeship opportunity at the European Movement International – Political Communications

The European Movement International offers an ongoing traineeship programme aimed at university students that are required to pursue work experience as part of their degree. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a Brussels-based organisation working at the heart of European politics. We are able to host students for 5-6 months between September and July.

We are currently looking for our next Political Communication trainee that can join our team from 1 March 2023 to the end of July 2023.

As our new Political Communications Trainee, you will be working directly with our Head of Press & Communications and the rest of the Communications Team in developing communications strategies and drafting, developing, and designing content for our various communication channels, current projects, and upcoming projects. All this is done in close collaboration with the advocacy, policy, and events teams.

Roles and Responsibilities

We are looking for a proactive and highly motivated individual who is keen to work and learn in the following areas:

Strategy

  • Assist in the development of political communication strategies (narrative building/message framing) for a wide variety of projects aimed at various stakeholders and target audiences.  

Social Media

  • Assist in content creation and the management of our various social media accounts, which includes @EMInternational and @DemocracyAlive on Twitter, as well as our accounts on Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube. 

Community Management

  • Assist in developing and managing content for our grassroots community-building efforts.   

Website Management

Writing

  • Assist in drafting Press Releases, Op-Eds, Newsletters, Tweets and so much more.   

Graphic Design

  • Assist in designing content on Canva or the various Adobe programmes for various communication purposes. 

Moreover, the successful applicant will have to have a creative mind; be able to handle a heavy workload; have good English language skills; have a good eye for design and detail; be able to work independently; have a positive attitude, and like working in a team 🙂   

Eligibility and requirements

  • Student status
  • Interest in political communications // EU Affairs
  • Strong analytical and writing skills
  • Good organisational skills and an ability to cope with fast-changing environments
  • Eligibility to live and work in Belgium

Remuneration

Please note that candidates are required to be in full-time education at the time of their application, and fulfilling a work placement requirement at the university. Only students who have secured funding (such as an Erasmus grant) to cover their traineeship will be considered.
