ELEC heard on EMU functioning
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), a consultative body of the European Union, is preparing an opinion on “Completing EMU: the political pillar”. It feeds into the preparation of the four presidents’ report (Juncker, Tusk, Draghi, Dijsselbloem) on the functioning of EMU, which is due to be presented at the European Council in June 2015. In the framework of the EESC’s consultative work on this new opinion, Bernard Snoy, president of the European League for Economic Cooperation, last week defended the point of view of ELEC. In his extensive analysis (see PPPresentation) Snoy said there are several signs of greater awareness of the need to move, but at the same time he called not to lose sight of the global trends and the longer term challenges ahead.
