Meeting of European Movement Political Committee
The European Movement International’s political committee on Jobs, Competitiveness and Sustainable Growth met on 22 February with Mr Jörgen Gren, Member of Cabinet of Andrus Ansip, to discuss the modernisation of the European copyright framework. Members discussed the main challenges to the reform and the importance of updating the framework to make the market functional in an environment that has radically changed since it was first set up twenty years ago. Ensuring access to online services to citizens when they cross borders in Europe, fighting piracy, making sure authors are fairly remunerated for their work, developing e-government, and establishing VAT one-stop shops for companies are some of the aspects of this reform that were discussed. The European Movement International expressed its willingness to support this reform as it is strongly linked to promoting cultural diversity and democracy in Europe. The political committee, co-Chaired by Eva Paunova, EMI Vice-President and MEP will continue to monitor this process and define actions to be taken by the European Movement International and its member organisations across Europe in the coming months.
