ELEC Update
Boonstra : money is (not) important
Dear ELEC friend,
Wim Boonstra, president of ELEC’s Monetary Commission and chief economist of Rabobank, has been appointed professor Economic and Monetary Policy at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. In his inaugural address at a ceremony last week, Boonstra elaborated on the role of money. What money is used for, the supply of money, its value and its effects on price (in)stability, the way it is created and destroyed (…) are not abstract topics. Since the outbreak of the financial and banking crisis, it is clear that these elements matter very much. So money is important, Boonstra concluded, but he admitted that money is less important the more you have of it…
The text of Wim’s speech (in Dutch) can be found on our website.
Kindest regards,
Jerry van Waterschoot
Secretary General
