EM Sweden – Report from Stockholm
The European Movement in Stockholm, established in March 2009, carried out three activities after their first annual meeting. They organised a seminar on a new book "konsten att vara invandrare" (Being an immigrant) written by a man who came to Sweden as teenager-refugee from Poland in the late fifties. The second activity was appointinting the "European of the Year in Sweden" at the May 9 Conference in the presence of Margot Wallström. The award was assigned to the poet, translator and photographer Lütfi Özkök, born in Istanbul and living in Stockholm since the fifties, maybee most famous for his portraits of Samuel Becket. The objective of the third activity was to establish a forum where opinion leaders, important stakeholders and media can meet and discuss the future of Europe. The meeting gathered some 50 people.
The agenda for the autumn contains so far four evening seminars, the first Thursday every month starting September 3rd. The subject for the first seminar will be "Enlargement in the future" focusing on France and Turkey.
