EMI Welcomes the European Democratic Party as new members
December 10, 2013
The European Movement International (EMI) is proud to announce the European Democratic Party (EDP) as its newest member. The Board of the EMI has accepted the EDP and welcomes it into the EMI family, where it will join other European Political Parties, European People’s Party (EPP), the Party of European Socialists (PES), and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party (ALDE).
The European Democratic Party is a trans-national political movement which seeks to build a European democracy rooted in the principles of peace, freedom, solidarity and education, while also affirming European identity and culture throughout the world.

Jo Leinen, President of the EMI says:
"I am happy to welcome the European Democratic Party as newest member of the European Movement International. In times of growing anti-European populism it is even more important that the EMI offers a network in which pro-European political parties and international organisations from across the political spectrum join forces to defend the European project."
Francois Bayrou, Co-President of the EDP adds:
"The European Democratic Party has just joined the European Movement International. We have a common goal of building a more coherent Europe that is closer to its citizens. While the European idea is attacked everywhere we strongly reaffirm that the union of Europe is the only possible path to true freedom and true sovereignty of our peoples. "
