Europe Day in Denmark: Getting closer to the people
The birth of a new TV web-based channel
In Denmark, Europe day 2010 will mark the launching of the new web-based channel JA-TV (YES-TV) by the Danish European Movement. JA-TV will focus on news in European affairs, and intend to generate debates on the future of Europe and interviews with leading experts and politicians from all over Europe, both in Danish and English.
The hoisting of the European flag
Following last year’s success of the Danish campaign to support the hoisting of the European flag in all local municipalities during the European day, the EMD will continue to push for more municipalities to fly the European Flag. Current dialogues between the EMD and the municipalities reveal that almost 80% of the municipalities may hoist the European colour on 9 May 2010!
EM Denmark will also encourage the main bus companies to use the European flag on that day.
When Europe comes down the Danish street
In Aalborg, Viborg, Aarhus, Holstebro, Sønderjylland, Odense, Vestsjælland, Nordsjælland, Copenhagen, Greater Copenhagen area, and Bornholm, people will surely enjoy a piece of a well-baked ”Europe cake” whilst sharing slices of ideas on Europe. Free information and leaflets regarding the European Union and the role of the EMD will be provided.
In Odense and on the island of Bornholm the local branches of the European Movement will organize debates with a panel of politicians. There will also be a free European movie night in Odense and Rønne on Bornholm designed for a younger audience.
Note that the name of the European of the Year will be made public on April, 7 as a prelude to the events planned for Europe Day.
