Liberals exchanged best practices for upcoming political campaigns
More than 40 liberals from 13 European countries met in Berlin on 29-30 October 2010 to discuss "New ways in European dialogue". FDP’s former federal director Hans Jürgen Beerfeltz and today State Secretary in the German Ministry for economic cooperation and development gave a close insight in the last German parliamentary election campaign. He pointed out the importance of a "grassroots campaign" and the new social media, as keys for a real consensus and to keep sympathizers of your party informed.
Ralf Froehlich from the German-Swedish agency Himmel and Yord highlighted the importance of PR agencies as a tool to spread political messages during a campaign period. The Danish parliamentarian Mads Rorvig gave an overview on the social media as platforms for getting people involved in political discussion and argumentation.
Finally, Louis Perron from Switzerland described the "Asian way" of reaching out to voters: emotion and believability are the bases of good results on Election Day.
Helmut Metzner from the German Liberals and Niels Kirkegaard from the Danish liberal party Venstre summarized that European liberals offer a lot of best practice examples for increasing resonance of the liberal belief. All participants in the seminar were of the same opinion that ELDR should continue the exchange of best practices among its member parties.
Amongst the guests was also Hilary Stephenson, head of campaign and elections from the UK Liberal Democrats.
