October 22-24, 2008: Mission to Ljubljana: EU Potential Candidates: “Civil Society challenges Public authority”

Mr. Pat Cox, President of the European Movement International, and Mr. Charles Ferdinand Nothomb, Vice President of the European Movement International were invited to Ljubljana by the European Movement Slovenia in order to meet the national authorities, and notably the future Prime Minister of Slovenia and the President of the National Assembly, the Mayor of Ljubljana, the Representation of the European Commission as well as Slovenian NGOs. Together they talked about the organization of a Congress in Slovenia which should be held at the end of March or beginning of April and will gather NGOs from the region as well as national and local authorities of potentially candidate countries to the European Union. This Congress will focus on the viability of NGOs in the region and on what the political world’s answer to it should be.
