Renewable Europe
Renewable Europe
The European Movement strongly approves the European Commission’s proposal concerning the setting of new targets for consumption of renewable energies. The issue of energy supply is a central one in Europe, particularly in the light of efforts to combat climate change. This package comes at a time when the European Movement is spreading the word on energy and the environment in several ways.In April 2008, the EMI proposes to hold the anticipated second encounter in its ENEL debate series. “Nuclear on Trial” will examine the benefits and disadvantages of this controversial energy source at a time when it may possibly be one of the cleanest energy sources readily available to replace fossil fuels.More details will be available soon on this website. The EMI is also collaborating with the European Parliament for its ‘AGORA’ series, a consultation of European Civil Society, the next of which will deal with the question of Climate Change. The EMI calls on its National Councils and International Member Organizations to take an active part in the discussion and recognizes that by putting pressure on international political leaders to take decisions, civil society can play a crucial role in the debate.
