On 10 November, European Movement International’s President Jo Leinen and Secretary General Petros Fassoulas met with the Socialists and Democrats Party’s President Gianni Pittella and Secretary General Javier Moreno Sánchez to discuss how the European Movement can work more closely together with the S&D Party on European issues. The representatives of both parties identified topics of joint interest and agreed on areas for possible closer cooperation.

The EMI and the Socialists and Democrats Party have a long history of working together, with the Party of European Socialists holding a longstanding membership at the European Movement. The European Movement and PES are determined to continue this tradition of joining efforts and are set to plan further meetings to discuss their cooperation in more detail.
