On 10 April 2017, Liberals from around the world came together on the same spot at Wadham College, University of Oxford, where Liberal International was established 70 years ago this month. In 1947 Liberals from 19, mostly European, countries united in the aftermath of the horrors of World War II to form Liberal International, a political federation to promote a world order based on liberal values; today, with over 100 members across 5 continents, the liberal movement is truly global.

With the rise of populism and illiberalism Liberal International’s fight to promote fairness and freedom has rarely been more urgent. The liberal family will come together again in Andorra next month to offer a response to growing global threats and to mark the wider membership of their 70th anniversary with the adoption of a new Manifesto at their annual Congress.
