On 2 December 2016, representatives of CED member and observer organisations met in Brussels, Belgium, for a regular six-monthly General Meeting, under the chairmanship of President Dr. Marco Landi.

Results of CED elections

During the plenary session, the CED members were invited to vote for three new Directors and for a Treasurer. Dr. Doniphan Hammer (France), Dr. Freddie Sloth-Lisbjerg (Denmark) and Prof. Paulo Melo (Portugal) were elected as Directors. Michael Armstrong (United Kingdom) was elected as Treasurer. They join the current CED President Dr. Marco Landi (Italy), Vice-President and Director Dr. Piret Väli (Estonia) and Directors Dr. Alexander Tolmeijer (The Netherlands) and Dr. Hans Schrangl (Austria). The new CED Board assumed its powers on 3 December.

CED Resolution on ANNEX V.3/5.3.1 of Directive 2005/36/EC (PQD)

CED members adopted the Revised Resolution on ANNEX V.3/5.3.1 of Directive 2005/36/EC (PQD) related to the profession of dentist.
The CED proposes three types of changes to Annex V.3/5.3.1: changes of the names of the subjects, exclusion of some subjects from the study programme for dental practitioners and addition of other subjects.
The CED states that it is extremely important to update the study programme for dental practitioners both in terminology and in content, and to provide dental practitioners with concrete competences and skills in order to permit them practicing their profession in the contemporary world successfully.

CED Statement on waste water disposal

CED members unanimously adopted the Statement on waste water disposal in dental clinics. The Statement reflects the CED’s commitment to raise awareness on safe management of healthcare waste to protect the environment from the negative effects of waste water discharges.
The CED affirms that dental clinics must avoid discharging water with chemical residue, biohazardous material and by-products of laboratory manufacturing.
Urban waste water from dental clinics has to be collected, treated and discharged in an environmentally safe way.

CED Position on Amending Waste Directive

European dentists have always been concerned about the safe management of healthcare waste and its environmental impact. By adopting the position on the European Commission’s proposal amending Directive on Waste, the CED continues to be committed to encourage dentists across the EU to be environmentally responsible. CED also supports the setting up of an electronic registry or coordinated registries to record data on hazardous waste provided that this does not create additional red tape to dentists.
