Mario Monti joins European Movement Honorary Council

The European Movement International is delighted to announce that Mario Monti has been welcomed to its Honorary Council following a decision by its Board. The former Italian Prime Minister joins an esteemed list of representatives who have contributed so much to European Society.

The Council, which includes experts from their fields, such as former President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso and former President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, helps the European Movement International achieve its goals of moving Europe forward, furthering European identity and integration.

As former Prime Minister of Italy (2011-2013), European Commissioner for Internal Market, Services, Customs and Taxation (1995-1999), European Commissioner for Competition (1999-2004) and Italian Senator for life (2011), Mr. Monti has contributed hugely towards the progress of Europe. With this wealth of experience, we are thrilled to welcome Mr. Monti to the European Movement International Honorary Council.

As an international organisation open to all political, economic, social and cultural trends in civil society, the European Movement aims to contribute to the establishment of a united Europe founded on the respect for basic human rights, principles of peace and democracy, liberty and solidarity, as well as the active participation of citizens.
